About Course

The Building Construction Technology program at Urban College equips students with in-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and site management. The course emphasizes both theoretical foundations and the practical skills required for leadership roles in the construction and engineering industries. Students are trained to oversee projects from conception to completion, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency.

What you should know about Building Construction

The Building Construction Technology course at Urban College provides students with a thorough understanding of construction principles and practices. It combines technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and hands-on experience through interactive teaching and project-based learning. The curriculum is divided into three main areas: Pre-Construction Activities, Substructure, and Superstructure.

In the Pre-Construction Activities segment, students learn about the essential preparatory stages of a construction project, including site analysis, planning, and design, along with legal and regulatory compliance. Students explore the roles and responsibilities of key professionals involved, including architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and contractors. They also receive specialized training in drafting and reading construction drawings.

The Substructure section covers below-ground components, focusing on foundation types, soil assessment, excavation techniques, earthworks, and methods for damp proofing and drainage.

The Superstructure segment addresses above-ground elements, including load-bearing and non-load-bearing wall types, flooring systems, roof design and construction, and the installation of windows and doors. Students also learn about interior and exterior finishing, as well as how to integrate smart technologies in building construction.

Through practical activities and workshops, students apply their theoretical knowledge, preparing them for careers in construction management, sustainable infrastructure, structural engineering, and urban planning.
